If an idea has a portion or all of it disproven, is it dead? Often it should be, but something can always be added to the idea to "keep it alive", even if this causes the idea to become more complex and less plausible. What is added to keep the idea on life support is called an "Ad Hoc Hypothesis", and is often an indicator that the idea is bunk, has been disproven beyond plausibility, and should be discarded. In this episode, we'll use a demonstration to show what an ad hoc hypothesis is, how it works, and how to be able to notice when it is being employed by pseudoscience.
